Angels Landing
Sep 8, 2011
Angels Landing received its name since it was originally believed only an angel could land on the massive steep summit. History proved different, and after construction of a trail with numerous switchbacks, this mountain sees many visitors.
Most of the length of the trail is graded and wide, hiding in the shade of the canyon in the morning hours to great relief of the hikers. Past the Scouts Lookout things get more interesting, as the ridge to the summit is narrow with long drop-offs. Several deaths have occurred on this trail, and going past the lookout is not recommended if the rock is wet or for those fearful of heights. With good grippy boots and the help of chains, it is fun and easy going up. Took us about 1.5 hrs to the top.
The album contains pictures from hikes both to the Angels Landing (morning) and the Virgin River Narrows (afternoon).
