Climbed Middle Sister, this time from PCT. It's a longer approach than from Camp Lake. Using the same climbing route from south.
No snow on the climbing part, but lots of snow getting there.
Loose rocks, unstable slope. Somewhat dangerous.
Awesome view!
Did this as part of the 3 day long weekend backpacking trip to the Three Sisters Wilderness. We camped one night at Eileen Lake, and 2nd night by PCT. Lots of mosquitoes at lower elevation (where this lake is), and some bugs along PCT. No bugs higher.
Had obtained day hike permit online for Obsidian Trail for both the 1st and 3rd day, to hike in and out. The camping permit wasn't available.
It's about 10 miles from Obsidian Trail TH to Eileen Lake, less than 2000' elevation gain. Eileen Lake is about a mile off PCT, at less than 6000'. PCT in that section is around 6000 - 6500'. It's about 3-4 miles one-way, 4000' gain from PCT to the summit of Middle Sister via the southern route.
Cell signal along part of the trail.
I know of another approach from NE (Camp Lake), but taking the glacier up from the east. I haven't done that.
