We went in half way at Nitinat Lake. Stayed in the motel the night before to have our orientation. Took a water taxi to the trail head at 8:30 the next morning. Hiked north for 3 days. It was wonderful scenery when we finally got to the coast. We walked on a pebbly beach and muddy trails. I would recommend hiking poles for balance and to climb up and down the tree roots and through the mud.
The driftwood at our first camp was great but the second was sparse. Needed to dry out our boots from fording streams. The last 10 km where fairly easy. I recommend the beach walk for the last 1 km unless you like ladders. We just had rain overnight and the rest was fine. Lots of fog! Take lots of water each day. We filled up our bottles each morning but ran out mid day. Challenging hike.
