Road to Golden Ears Park/Alouette Lake remains closed due to the wicked ice buildup. You can still drive up and park at the horse corral area ( parking lot is quite icy but manageable, just watch your footing). From the corral you can access the Alouette Lake trail (also known as the Alouette Valley trail) and the trail to Mike Lake further along. Today I went up the Alouette one to about the 3.5 km mark. Trail was mostly clear, occasional snow-ice bits but not needing microspikes. Mike Falls is flowing nicely and is worth taking a peek at. Many hikers go right by it, completely unaware of its existence. On the trail you'll come to a small bridge across little Mike Creek - "one horse at a time" the sign reads. Before this bridge note a small steep trail going down off the main one. Go down, turn left and you'll see the falls.
The forest was very foggy today, Lord of the Ringish, mysterious. Very nice and also very unpopulated with people!
Update: as of Jan 6th, road is open. Drive carefully, still some icy patches at northern end near campgrounds. For further updates follow on twitter@alouetteparks
